Community Woodturning Project

Atlanta Woodturners Guild (atlantawoodturnersguild.org) is partnering with Mountain Park Church (mpfbc.org) to provide the opportunity to learn woodturning on the MPFBC campus.  One of our goals is to keep Woodturning alive in our Community.

Classes begin Thursday, May 29, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.  Classes are available for ages 12 to 99 who are able to stand for four hours at a lathe, show concentration, hand-eye coordination and can work with wood, sharp tools and machinery.  The classes will be held outdoors provisionally.

Classes will last four hours.  Currently, we have had some equipment generously donated.  However, to get this program up and running we will need additional tools and equipment. Specifically, we are looking for chucks compatible with 1” spindles, a grinder, live and drive centers, face shields, and essential turning tools, including spindle roughing gouges, 3/8” spindle gouges, 3/8” bowl gouges, parting tools, and skews.

Additionally, we are seeking volunteers to serve as instructors for this program. For insurance purposes, all teaching volunteers must be members of the American Association of Woodturners.

If you can contribute in any way, be it tools, time, or expertise—please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or donations. Your support would mean the world to us, and we’re truly grateful for your consideration!
