AWG members,
I hope everyone is having a good summer. It is hard to believe that my daughter will be back in school in two weeks (Cherokee County). Judging by the Show ‘n Tell pictures from June’s meeting, at least a few of you are finding the time to turn some nice pieces.
Demonstration.
This Wednesday, 7/21/10, our own Nick Cook will debut the Hollow Fast System. It is always fun to see a new hollowing system in action and I’m sure Nick will push it to it’s limits! [Joe Gettys actually will sit in for Nick] The owner of “Hollow Fast/Hold Fast/Sharp Fast/Stick Fast” will also be there to field any questions on the system.

For this meeting we’ll get the first look at a new hollowing system. No one else has had the chance to see this system in action. The new system is called “The Hollow Fast System” and is introduced by Joe Matwick from Tech Marketing, Inc. Joe is also the owner of Stick Fast Ca glue and the Sharp Fast system for grinding your tools. Nick Cook will demonstrate the system for us and Joe will also be available to answer any questions. This is a great opportunity to learn basic hollowing techniques and to witness the debut of the Hollow Fast System.

ATLANTA WOODTURNERS GUILD BOARD MINUTES
June 2010
The scheduled board meeting for the Atlanta Woodturning Guild met with quorum in place and was called to order by Vice President John Rudert at 5. 50pm 16 June 2010. President Kurt Whitley was absent for this meeting.
A motion to accept the May minutes as written was presented and accepted unanimously.
Treasury Report
There was no Treasury report for this meeting.
General Business
There was a continued discussion on the current By-laws issue which will be voted upon at the July meeting. The Board members present stated that they had read the current By-laws and also the proposed simple By-laws. Individual views were heard on the effectiveness of each which will be resolved at the next meeting.
The first issue of the AWG newsletter was thought to be excellent by all. Congratulations to Betty Fugate for an outstanding newsletter was expressed by all Board members present.
It did however bring up the subject of monthly articles for the newsletter. How do we obtain volunteers to write a piece for the news letter each month? This was not resolved but several subjects were suggested, one in particular would be an article on the various woodturning forums that abound on the web. Which are the best and respond to woodturning questions in a forthright manner. The question remains – does anyone in AWG know the sites and is in a position to advise and comment as such in an article?
Webmaster Dave Roselius announced the latest update to our website www.atlantawoodturnersguild.org
He has now added a “Web Resources” page to the site. Initially the page lists Woodturning Interactive Forums, Woodturning Articles, Woodturning Videos, Woodturning Project Plans and Other Area Woodworking Clubs.
At the bottom of the page Dave asks for any favorite resources members may have and should contact him with the site. His e-mail address is listed.
Bob Greenberg announced that there will be a “Turning Event” in conjunction with the annual AWG toy making project. It is requested that volunteers attend to turn boxes and other simple items for the children. The event will be held at Woodcraft on Sunday 29 August 2010 from 10am–4pm.
John Rudert asked if there was any further business to be discussed. There being none he adjourned the meeting at 6.25pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Chris Burfield
Secretary
