Don’t miss this meeting!!! Bruce Bell from Australia will demonstrate for us. Bruce lives just out side of Toowoomba, QLD. He has been woodturning since 1972 specializing in Australian outback timbers. In 1992 he designed and built the first “Travelling Woodturning School” (a workshop on wheels). Woodturning classes thus became available to both city and country people where they could “enjoy the thrill of making the chips fly”.
Don Russell will demonstrate for us. Don is a furniture maker and woodturner from Oxford, GA. He demonstrates and teaches across the Southeast and is the President of the Peachstate Woodturners Club. Don will turn a segmented Xmas ornament for this demo. [...] Kim Winkle will demonstrate for us. Kim is a furniture maker in Smithville, TN. She received her MFA in Furniture Design at San Diego State University and has been the wood Artist in Residence for 3 years at Appalachian Center for Craft. Her work has exhibited nationally including the Museum of Contemporary Craft in Portland, OR, and Center for Contemporary Craft, Houston, TX. For this session, Kim will turn a small foot stool and then turn it into a work of art.
Nick Cook, one of the foremost woodturners in the world, and well known to us in Georgia, will demonstrate for this meeting. The topic for Nick’s demo is “Turning Peppermills”.
Joe Gettys will demonstrate for us. Joe’s demo will focus on how to rid yourself of your scrap. Think of all those small pieces of wood that you just can’t throw away. There’s a small turning project hidden in each of those pieces. Joe will also demonstrate threading techniques using the Baxter threading jig. Wes Jones will demonstrate turning hollow forms. He will turn an open mouthed form so that we can see the hollowing action inside the form. |
