Send September Challenge Pictures Today

One of the cool benefits of being a part of AWG is posting pictures of your work on www.atlantawoodturnersguild.org.  Each month you see each other’s talent on our Show and Tell Page.  This month we would also like to publish your President’s Challenge Entries.  Here’s how:

  1. Take a picture of how you hang/store/organize your turning tools with your camera or phone.
  2. If it’s a digital picture, email a copy to webmaster@atlantawoodturnersguild.org before our next meeting so I can have it ready to show on the big screen at Woodcraft.  You could also create a copy on a diskette, CD, DVD or USB Flash Drive and bring it to our September meeting.  (JPG files are nice, but send what you’ve gotJ)
  3. If you don’t have access to a digital camera… take a picture and bring it to our meeting in September.  Or email webmaster@atlantawoodturnersguild.org and we’ll figure it out.

Here are a couple examples, let’s see yours before the 15th

Guild Talent at August 2010 Meeting

There was a big President’s Challenge turnout in August. All of the goblets were great! But Michael Peace won the challenge with his Bradford Pear Goblet with the captured ring on the stem! Thanks to everyone for participating.

AWG Presidents Message – 8/18/10 Meeting

August Demonstration.

This Wednesday, 8/18/10, Tania Radda from Arizona will present. I have attended a couple of her presentations in the past and they were very interesting. Traditionally, her demonstrations involve decoration and embellishment of her turnings and/or discussion of the creative process.  Below is a link to her website  definitely not a mainstream turner!   http://www.taniaradda.com/

Presidents Challenge for August – Turn a Goblet.

For our August meeting, the president’s challenge is to turn a Goblet (cup on a pedestal). It can be as large as you want, but I’ll give it minimum sizes of at least 5″ tall and the cup portion must be at least big enough in diameter to fit a golf ball (1.68″ diameter).

Guild Talent at July 2010 Meeting

Several members brought in some nice summer turnings to the July meeting. Harvey Meyer won the President’s Challenge for the best finial… and they are absolutely superb! Our backup photographer didn’t do them real justice, but please enjoy!

AWG Presidents Message – 7/19/10 Meeting

AWG members,

I hope everyone is having a good summer. It is hard to believe that my daughter will be back in school in two weeks (Cherokee County). Judging by the Show ‘n Tell pictures from June’s meeting, at least a few of you are finding the time to turn some nice pieces.

Demonstration.
This Wednesday, 7/21/10, our own Nick Cook will debut the Hollow Fast System. It is always fun to see a new hollowing system in action and I’m sure Nick will push it to it’s limits!  [Joe Gettys actually will sit in for Nick]  The owner of “Hollow Fast/Hold Fast/Sharp Fast/Stick Fast” will also be there to field any questions on the system.
