ATLANTA WOODTURNERS GUILD BOARD MINUTES

August 2010

The scheduled board meeting for the Atlanta Woodturning Guild met with quorum in place and was called to order by President Kurt Whitley at 5.45pm 18 August 2010. A motion by Bob Greenberg to accept the July minutes as written was presented seconded by John Rudert and accepted unanimously.

General Business

A general discussion was opened by Mike Peace wherein he expressed his views on the confusion in the AWG By-laws concerning the language covering the designation of a General Member as qualification to vote for officers of AWG, and also the confusion concerning those members qualified to vote for amendment changes to the By-laws. Several views were heard and discussed and in order to clarify the issue a motion was asked for.

Two motions were presented by Mike Peace to amend the AWG By-laws

1. Modify the By-laws to allow all paid up AWG chapter members to vote for officers by modifying the wording in “Article VII E Vacancies” to replace the words “General Member” with “the Chapter’s paid-up members”.

2. Clarify who is a qualified member to vote for amendment changes in “Article XII – Amendments” by changing the words “qualified voting” to “paid-up members”.

Both motions were seconded by John Rudert and there being no further discussion the motion was approved unanimously.

With the above amendments to the By-laws approved by the Board these amendments will be presented to the general membership in written form as required, thus giving them the 30 day review notice. The general membership will be asked to vote on these amendments at the monthly meeting scheduled for 20 October 2010.

The meeting continued with the annual review of the AWG membership dues. Our club has grown to just over 50 members and is now slowly beginning to build cash in the bank to support our various activities. It was decided to leave the annual dues at $50.00 in order to continue to build our cash reserves. It was felt that with the continuing rise in general costs and expenses that a reserve should always be on hand to cover any expenses not foreseen and thus keep AWG viable and stable.

Bob Greenberg asked that the Secretary compose a letter to Steve Quel thanking him for his support of AWG and in particular his donation of $100 worth of wood to support the Children’s Health Care of Atlanta at Scottish Rite. This annual volunteer project will turn craft items for the children to be donated by AWG over the holiday period.

Kurt Whitley stated that he would ask for volunteers to form an Officers Nominating Committee for 2011 at the September General Meeting.

There being no further business President Kurt Whitley adjourned the meeting at 6.20pm

Respectfully submitted,

Chris Burfield

Secreatary
