AWG members,
April Demonstration.
We are delighted to have George Hatfield of Sydney, Australia joining us this Wednesday! George is one of the established great turners and has dedicated much of his life to teaching woodturning. I expect we’ll have a pretty full house.
If you’d like more info on George Hatfield, here’s a short Bio: http://www.carolinamountainwoodturners.org/demonstrators/hatfield/Hatfield_Bio-CV.pdf
MAY Challenge.
The challenge is for the May meeting. The objective is to turn a bowl to see how clean of a surface you can obtain straight off of the tool (no sanding) and be able to compare it with others. Hopefully we will get a good array entries. For the sake of comparison, it would be good if the bowl is about 5″ or larger and should be turned in the side-grain orientation and not be segmented (so that the problems of end-grain are addressed) however, this is for your own benefit so this is not a requirement.
Miscellaneous Club news.
We are happy to see continued top-notch talent for our demonstrations. Kudos to Harvey Meyer for his efforts!
Jim Hardey is our new librarian. We will introduce him in Wednesday’s meeting. We have videos and books available for members to check out. The fee is $2 per item per month. The proceeds from this are used to buy more books/tapes. We can’t make promises, but if you have suggestions on additions, please give them to Jim.
Our webmaster, Dave Roselius (with some legacy support from our ex webmaster, Jon Payne) has been working on some very nice changes to our website. These changes are not yet implemented, but I wanted to mention it so you might pay attention to the current design and layout – so as to better appreciate the changes once they are in place!
Hope to see you Wednesday.
Cheers,
Kurt Whitley
