ATLANTA WOODTURNERS GUILD
BOARD MINUTES
August 2009
The scheduled board meeting for the Atlanta Woodturners Guild met with a quorum in place and was called to order by the president Bob Greenberg at 5.40pm 19 August 2009
A motion to accept the July meeting minutes as written was accepted unanimously.
Bob opened the meeting by announcing the Guild has a new Webmaster Dave Roselius and that the Guild now owns its own website which will continue in the same format as in the past. Our website domain will remain the same at www.atlantawoodturnersguild.org .
Treasury Report
Doug Lichliter reported that the Guild has $2500.00 in the treasury and remains very solvent.
Program Chair
Harvey Meyer stated that he has a turner tentatively scheduled for March 2010 but was concerned on the high cost to bring this particular individual to Atlanta for an evening demonstration. He suggested that the board discuss cost parameters for the Guild to schedule demonstrators as fees appear to be rising.
General Business
The meeting opened with a general discussion on costs for bringing in demonstrators . The overall consensus was that the Guild could bring in the more expensive turners for demonstrations but should offset these individuals by using local turners that tend to be less expensive.
A motion was presented by Tom Rupert
-
Insofar as the demonstrator for March 2010 , that since the individual may also demonstrate at the Georgia Association of Woodturners (GAW), if they, GAW approve the individual for their meeting then the Guild will also ask the turner to demonstrate at the March 2010 meeting.
The motion was seconded by Doug Lichliter, put to the vote and approved unanimously.
There was a general discussion on a mentoring program for woodturning beginners in the Guild and what could be done by the more experienced members to teach the basics to this group of members. It was decided that a volunteer group of experienced turners should demonstrate and teach the basics of woodturning to those members who felt they needed basic skill training. This would be accomplished with Steve Quehl’s approval at Woodcraft using their lathe equipment. The session would be on a weekend for a four hour period and be complimentary to the Guild membership.
Bob Greenberg stated that he would present this concept to the membership and ask for volunteers to participate.
The meeting continued with the topic of the upcoming slate of officers to be nominated and elected for 2010. The board discussed the existing by-laws of the Guild and decided they should be amended to fall in line with the way the Guild has been run since inception. This change would be subject to general membership approval.
Harvey Meyer presented the following motion
-

-
is not a requirement to have previously served as a director to become an officer of the Guild.
The motion was presented subject to general membership approval. It was seconded by Matt Denis, put to the vote and approved unanimously.
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 6.45pm.
