General Business
It was announced that Ron Harvey has won the scholarship to attend the GAW Symposium in October this year.
There was a general discussion on the subject of honorary membership in the Atlanta Woodturners Guild.
Nick Cook as one of the founding members of the Guild is one of the best known woodturners in Georgia. His contribution to the craft of woodturning is well known and his efforts to support the craft are tireless.
The discussion resulted in Nick Cook being nominated to become an honorary member of the Guild.
A motion was presented by Dave Martin.
- That Nick Cook be made an Honorary Member of the Atlanta Woodturners Guild with immediate effect and that in such position he would be asked to act as advisor to the Guild on woodturning matters.
The motion was seconded by Harvey Meyer, put to vote and was passed unanimously.
A further discussion was held on the youth program that had been discussed prior to the meeting via several e-mails between various board members. The subject reviewed was if the Guild wished to become involved in a youth education program in conjunction with the Georgia National Fair. The consensus was that we would become involved if Woodcraft was prepared to host such classes.
A motion was presented by Harvey Meyer on the subject.
- Assuming Woodcraft will support the endeavor, the Guild will participate in a youth education program in conjunction with the Georgia National Fair.
The motion was seconded by Doug Lichliter, put to the vote and was passed unanimously.
There being no further business Vice President Kurt Whitley adjourned the meeting at 6.30pm
After the meeting Kurt Whitley contacted Steve Quehl of Woodcraft. He agreed that Woodcraft in conjunction with the Atlanta Woodturning Guild would host a Youth Education Program.
Respectfully submitted,
Chris Burfield
Secretary
