BOARD MINUTES
April 2009
The scheduled board meeting for the Atlanta Woodturners Guild met as scheduled with a quorum in place. The meeting was called to order at 5.45pm 15 April 2009 by the President Mr. Bob Greenberg
Last month’s minutes were called for approval and approved unanimously.
Treasury Report
The Treasurer Mr. Doug Lichliter presented the treasury report. He stated that we were very soluble with approximately $2,900.00 in the Guild Treasury with 39 paid members.
Program Chair
Harvey Meyer announced that he has obtained Bruce Bell from Australia to demonstrate at our July meeting. He also said that he might be able to get Alan Stirt for October. Although we have had Al before there was no objection to asking him demonstrate again. Harvey said he would let us know as there were other circumstances that might prevent Al from attending. Harvey stated he would check it out and let us know if he could confirm.
General Business
Tom Smith opened a general discussion on exposing the club’s film library to the membership. At the moment he does not have members using the library as much as they could. He asked that the library could be catalogued on the Guild website as this would show members what is available and the rates.
As a follow-up to last month the subject of the membership listing on the website was further discussed. Chris Burfield stated that he had had an-email from Jon Payne the Guild’s webmaster that it could be done.
In view of the financial stability of the Guild a general discussion was had on scholarships. Dave Martin suggested that the club sponsor a member to the GAW Symposium this year.
There was a general discussion on Woodcraft, their hosting of the Guild meetings and the tremendous support from Steve Quehl. It was suggested that Steve’s Woodcraft store, not the corporate site be listed as a web link on our website. The following is Steve’s website address:-
www.woodcraft.com/stores/store.aspx?id=503
The various topics discussed resulted in the following motions to the board.
A motion from Tom Smith on the Guild Library
- That the library contents be catalogued and placed on the web site so that members may see what we have available. This action to be coordinated between Tom Smith, Librarian and Jon Payne, Webmaster
The motion was seconded by Dave Martin, put to the vote and approved unanimously.
A motion from Tom Rupert concerning membership listing on the website.
- That Bob Greenberg should send an e-mail to all members stating that the Board approved the placing of names, e-mails, and phone numbers for all members on the Guild website. Each to be password protected. Should any member opt to not have their information listed they should notify Bob via e-mail within 10days of receipt and their information will not be included. Once the membership information is collected coordination for the web listing would be from David Martin, Membership Chairman to Jon Payne, Webmaster.
The motion was seconded by Harvey Meyer, put to the vote and approved unanimously.
A motion from David Martin on a Guild scholarship
- That the Atlanta Woodturning Guild offer a scholarship not to exceed $250.00 to send two people to the GAW Symposium. One person would be the one who won the scholarship last year but was unable to attend. The second would chosen by submitting an e-mail to Bob Greenberg describing why they would like to attend the symposium. The description not to exceed one half page.
The motion was seconded by Doug Lichliter, put to the vote and approved unanimously.
There being no further business President Bob Greenberg adjourned the meeting at 6.20pm
Respectfully submitted,
Chris Burfield
Secretary
