ATLANTA WOODTURNERS GUILD

BOARD MINUTES

March 20, 2009

The scheduled board meeting for the Atlanta Woodturners Guild met as scheduled with a quorum in place. It was called to order at 5:40pm March 18th 2009 by the President Mr. Bob Greenberg.

There was no board meeting in February, as a result no minutes were presented for approval.

Treasury Report

None given this month.

General Business

Bob Greenberg opened a general discussion on the Guild’s annual dues at $50.00 vs other clubs that are less and if this situation was detrimental to generating new members. Several aspects concerning dues were discussed and the overall opinion was that our dues were not detrimental and should remain at $50.00.

This opened up several ideas to generate fund raisers to increase the financial viability of the treasury. It was decided that board members should “brainstorm” various ideas and present them at the next board meeting.

Bob also brought up the Toy Drive for 2009 to benefit the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite Hospital. The toys members of the Guild produced for 2008 were a resounding success and the hospital has asked the Guild to make as many as possible for this year. Bob stated that he is in the process of contacting all the Woodturning clubs in Georgia and asking them to participate; with the Atlanta Woodturning Guild as the leading, and coordinating club. He is also trying to get UPS to be a sponsor in the drive in order to obtain pick up and delivery from the various clubs to the hospital. All toys should be completed by Thanksgiving 2009.

The subject of placing the current membership list on the web site along with the individual e-mail addresses and phone numbers was discussed. This was further expanded to placing a page on our website for members to obtain general communication between members and also to ask fellow members for help, tips, and assistance on woodturning.

The subject further developed into improving the Guild website by taking it from its present “blog” style format to a full interactive website. Chris Burfield who has developed his own web site through the Microsoft Office Live Small Business (which is free except for the $14.95 a month domain charge) forum agreed to contact our webmaster Jon Payne for further information and development. Dave Martin also agreed to assist in this area.

The various topics discussed resulted in a motion from Chris Burfield.

  1. To place the current membership list on a password protected page on the Guild web site. The list to include the member name, telephone number and e-mail address. Should an individual member object to this information being listed on the web site they may opt to have just their name listed.

The motion was seconded by David Martin, put to the vote and approved unanimously

A motion was proposed by David Martin in regard to general communication and woodturning tips.

  1. To place a link on the Guild web site for general communication, help, and woodturning tips between the Guild members

The motion was seconded by Kurt Whitley, put to the vote and passed unanimously.

As a result of the motions passed Bob Greenberg stated that he would ask for a membership show of hands at the General Meeting to decide on the membership listing format proposed for the Guild web site.

There being no further business the meeting was adjourned by the President at 6:35pm.

  • At the general meeting later that evening Bob presented the membership listing motion to the General Membership. By a show of hands the concept was approved unanimously that current Guild members will be listed by name, telephone number, and e-mail address, however should a member decide to opt out of the full listing, just his name will be shown.

Respectfully submitted,

Chris Burfield

Secretary
