ATLANTA WOODTURNERS GUILD
BOARD MINUTES
January 21st 2009
The scheduled board meeting for the Atlanta Woodturners Guild met as scheduled with a quorum in place. It was called to order by the President Mr. Bob Greenberg at 5.40pm January 21st 2009.
A motion to accept the minutes of the previous meeting as written was made by Chris Burfield and seconded by Harvey Meyer. It was approved unanimously.
General Business
Bob Greenberg introduced Mike Mahoney our demonstrator for the evening who was also our guest at the board meeting.
Bob Greenberg announced that Steve Quehl of Woodcraft had very graciously offered a 10% discount to all Guild members on purchases that they make from Woodcraft while attending the monthly Guild meetings.
There was general discussion on the merits of charging a mandatory fee or asking for an individual monetary donation for admission to the Guild meetings when a special or professional woodturner had been contracted to perform a demonstration. After much input from various board members no satisfactory conclusion was reached. It was therefore decided to defer any further discussion until after this evenings meeting and demonstration by Mike Mahoney. The outcome of this evening’s demonstration relative to fees will be tabled until the next board meeting.
The Guild storage cabinet was discussed and Bob Greenberg stated that as a result of the subject that was covered in the last board meeting, he contacted Steve Quehl of Woodcraft and obtained approval to keep a lockable Guild storage cabinet at Woodcraft.
This resulted in an e-mail motion to the board members for Bob to purchase a suitable cabinet which cost $112.00. The motion was approved by all board members via e-mail. A lockable cabinet has now been purchased and resides at Woodcraft.
The subject of member name tags was continued from the last meeting and it was decided that Guild members in good standing should have Guild name badges. There was general agreement that the badges should be purchased with a lanyard and be worn by all members at each meeting. The badges would be stored at Woodcraft in the Guild storage cabinet. It was also agreed that each member will be required to take their badge from the cabinet, wear it during the meeting, and then return it to the cabinet before leaving the meeting.
This general discussion led to the following motion:
- Tom Ruppert made the following motion. The Guild should purchase name tags and lanyards for all members in good standing. Once made for each member they will be stored in the Guild cabinet at Woodcraft. Each member will be required to take their appropriate badge from the cabinet, wear it during the meeting, and then return it to the cabinet before leaving the meeting.
The motion was seconded by Chris Burfield and passed unanimously.
There being no further business President Bob Greenberg adjourned the meeting at 6.35pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Chris Burfield
Secretary
