Fellow turners and friends,
The second meeting of our new club brought forth some potential new members and was attended by special guest Allen Batty (a wonderful turner and teacher) from England. His age and health prevented him from doing our demonstration as he had taught a workshop all day. He is so much fun to have around that I hope he will return to our area next year affording those of you who have not studied with him, the opportunity to do so.
However, we were especially fortunate to have Frank Bowers as the demonstrator. As we all saw, even the most proficient turners have problems. Those of us who have been turning for a while have all experienced the nightmare of everything going wrong. For those just starting out, take heart, there truly is a shining light at the end of the tunnel.
As you all know our meeting day is the third Wednesday of the month. In November that date places us on the eve of Thanksgiving. The Board decided to skip the November meeting. Our next meeting will be held on our usual day and time ( in December it will be on the 19th at 7PM ). In addition to the usual festivities we are encouraging each member to bring a small gift related to turning ( something you can purchase not to exceed $10.– or something you made ) , wrapped, and upon receipt the club will give you a drawing ticket. During our holiday refreshments we will draw numbers and you will get the opportunity to chose something special.
Our web site is up and running. www.Atlantawoodturnersguild.org Again I want to thank Jon Payne on behalf of all the members of our club for doing such a fine job of getting our site up and running. I know Jon is continuing to work on the setup. In the furture I hope that we will set up a rotating gallery where we can show off some of our work.
For those of you who were unable to attend the (October) meeting, the President’s Challenge for December is to design and make your own nametag, It must have some turned element.
